Creating more sustainable facilities
As a global operator of facilities serving the aviation industry, we have an opportunity to make a significant positive impact on our environment. Where possible, we are applying green building standards to the construction of new facilities – most notably at our new dnata Cargo City, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Cargo City Amsterdam is one of the largest and most advanced facilities of its kind, which is striving to achieve the BREEAM certification in 2025 for energy and water efficient design.
In Ireland, our four catering facilities run on 100% purchased renewable energy, using self-generated energy where operationally feasible. In total, 12% of our electricity consumption is derived from renewables. We continue to procure renewable energy tariffs in the UK and Ireland, while generating solar energy at our facilities in Australia, Prague, Pakistan, UK, the Philippines and Singapore.
Our new catering facilities are focused on embedding energy efficient equipment where beneficial, including washing systems which significantly reduce water, detergent and energy consumption and efficient refrigeration units, highly efficient insulation and LED lighting.

Pursuing certifications
In alignment with our focus on governance, we actively pursue certifications and accreditations that allow us to enhance our environmental processes and create natural checks and balances within our procedures.

Reducing emissions
dnata’s decarbonisation plan focuses on five key areas: fleet transition, alternative fuels and technologies, operational efficiency, renewable energy and stakeholder collaboration. We are phasing out diesel-powered GSE, where feasible, in favour of hybrid and electric, and considering hydrogen-powered alternatives for the future.
Currently, approximately 18% of our international ground handling fleet is electric, and we are working towards increasing this over the coming years. We are also increasing our use of renewable energy to power this electric equipment, and exploring alternative fuel options, where available.
At Schiphol Airport, 100% of our airport operations ground handling fleet is fuelled by Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, and we also transitioned to a biodiesel blend for our airside vehicles and GSEs in Dubai; began a trial with ExxonMobil on renewable diesel (R20) in Singapore; and started operating our heavy goods vehicles at London Heathrow with 90% HVO in 2024-25.

Encouraging responsible consumption
Decreasing waste generation across our business is a fundamental behaviour we are working to change. Whether it’s through implementing innovative technology to manage food waste or embedding paperless processes, we are targeting waste reduction where operationally feasible.
dnata Cargo in the UK has invested in handheld tablets & whiteboard technology to manage efficient, safe and paper-free cargo operations, while dnata Catering Australia has designed its own application to manage airline menus remotely in kitchen spaces and remove the reliance on paper systems.
